The number of Hispanic owned businesses is on the rise across the United States especially where their population is growing. In Los Angeles, 21 percent of all businesses are Hispanic-owned, ranking it fifth among the nation's largest cities.
Texas is ranked third nationally, and North Dakota has the fewest number when it comes to the number of Hispanic-owned businesses in the nation. New Mexico had the highest concentration of Hispanic-owned businesses at 23.6 percent of all firms, followed by Florida (22.4 percent), Texas (20.7 percent), California (16.5 percent) and Arizona (10.7 percent). The Census Bureau based its findings on the period from 2002 to 2007, during which time Hispanic-owned businesses The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce says there are 720,000 Hispanic-owned businesses in the state, and estimates that there are a half-million Hispanic-owned firms in Southern California alone.
