The Nueva Latina Star Awards by Verizon and the first Arte Hispanidad Award were presented

CHICAGO— Once again, over five hundred of Chicago’s leaders and professionals gathered at the
6th VIVE LA HISPANIDAD, to celebrate the end of the Hispanic Heritage Month festivities. The event took place on Friday, October 8th at the beautiful Galleria Marchetti where the program was emceed by Telemundo News Anchor Tsi Tsi Ki Felix and NBC 5 Reporter Anthony Ponce. Proceeds benefited the non-profit organizations, International Latino Cultural Center and The Resurrection Project.

In addition live entertainment, delicious cuisine and an art and fashion exhibit, several awards were presented. The awards include the much awaited Nueva Latina Star Awards by Verizon, created to acknowledge the success of the Latina woman in the categories of business, technology and community service. The winners were announced by Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza and the CEO Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Maria E. Wynne.

For the first time in the history of this Hispanic Heritage Month event, the ARTE HISPANIDAD AWARD was presented to acclaimed Cuban artist, Eladio Gonzalez for his artistic career. The award was presented by the evening’s curator, Amalia Mahoney and art exhibit coordinators Luz Dyer, Clara Herrera and Natasha Casanova.

Leaders from public service, healthcare, business, education, community and media represented the Honorary Committee members. Honorary Committee Chair, Juan Ochoa addressed Vive guests.

“2010 will go down in American History, as one of the most transformative years this century. The census will show us what we already know, that America is not changing but transforming as it always has. The optimist and good-natured people will see that America’s fastest growing community is in keeping with traditions that make our country the greatest in the world. More Latinos will discover that this is our country as much as it is anyone
else’s. We are America and America will succeed because we will succeed…..Viva la Hispanidad.”
