Zalewski To Face Strong Challenge In 23rd Ward

Alderman Michael Zalewski and the 23rd Ward appear to be heading for a major aldermanic challenge in February 2011. Zalewski will bechallenged by community activist and independent democrat Anna Goral.Goral, a successful business woman “kicked” off her aldermanic campaign in middle of August by distributing 20,000 door hangersthroughout the 23rd ward. A member of Garfield Ridge Chamber ofCommerce, Garfield Ridge Civic League, United Association of Midway, vice president of Polish American Chamber of Commerce and a leadingRealtor® for many years, she is married and has two sons, both graduatesof St. Lawrence High School. Anna's oldest son is a police officerwhile her youngest is a Realtor® in addition to being her campaignmanager.

After much urging by friends, family and community residents I decided to seek the office of alderman in the 2011 city election, Goral said. Disappointed with city government and Zalewski's rubber stamp approval of anything city hall wants was a major factor in her decision. Goral said, people want a representative who will fight for their interest not city halls. She cited Zalewski's votes on raising taxes, approval of the sale ofMidway Airport and supporting city hall on the parking meter sale whichhas cost the city hundreds of millions in lost revenue. Goral said, our inspector general said this special deal was sold for hundreds of millions less than it should have been. This and other special deals have to end. I will be going door to door, senior to senior. I will be walking the entire ward working withresidents for change in the way city government and this ward are run, Goral concluded.
