Nearly 800 guests will pay tribute to the Founder and President of the National Latino Education Institute (formerly the Spanish Coalition for Jobs), Mary Gonzalez-Koenig, for her 44-years of community and public service. Gonzalez-Koenig will be honored during the National Latino Education Institute’s 37th annual dinner, on April 28 at the Hilton Chicago’s Grand Ballroom. A reception and silent auction take place from 6 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The dinner and program begin at 7:15 p.m. Chicago City Clerk, Miguel del Valle, described the National Latino Education Institute as, “One of the oldest Latino based organizations in Chicago, responsible for educating, training and placing thousands of Latinos in job opportunities.” Gonzalez-Koenig also served as commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Employment. Patricia Hemingway, President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, and Raymond F. McCaskey, the company’s former Director and CEO, are chairs. The President of Midwest Generation, Guy F. Gorney, will receive the 2009 Corporate Leadership Award. Background For nearly 40 years, tens of thousands of trainees have graduated from the National Latino Education Institute (NLEI), with more than 30,000 achieving job placement. NLEI is a nonprofit-nationally-accredited education institute that provides adults with the vocational, technological and educational skills necessary to attain economic independence. The institute adapts its programs and services to the language and cultural needs of the Latino community. Proceeds from this annual fundraiser support NLEI’s programs.
